Columbia College Community Support Services Department (CSSD)
Programs and Services for Persons with Disabilities
Enabling adult learners with disabilities to be actively included as valued, contributing members within their communities.
Specialty services designed to support, empower, and break down barriers.
We are committed to dismantling the barriers that individuals with unique abilities may face on their path to success. Our approach is centered on preparing our students not just for success in the workforce, but also for active and fulfilling participation in their communities. We achieve this through three core programs, each designed to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of the students in our program.
Community Access
Our Community Access Services enable individuals to become valued members of their communities by offering inclusive opportunities in social activities, arts, education, recreation, and volunteering. These services are invaluable for those who seek a fulfilling and balanced lifestyle outside of employment or in addition to their current jobs, fostering a sense of belonging and engagement in community life.
Employment Services
Our Employment Services assist individuals in finding and keeping paid employment, tailored to their interests and abilities, whether independently or with support. We provide a comprehensive array of services, including employment preparation, placement, and sustainment, to ensure a successful career path that is aligned with each student’s unique interests, skills, and abilities.
Employment Partnerships
In 2021, we launched an initiative aimed at forging deeper partnerships with employers and facilitating job opportunities for all persons with any disability. CSSD’s Employment Partnerships, endorsed by Alberta Supports and supported by federal and provincial grants, delivers training and support from an Employment Specialist, aiming for swift and successful employment outcomes.
